Vaskrs hrišćani slave tri dana, pa su u kalendaru SPC crvenim slovom obilježeni Vaskršnji ponedjeljak i Vaskršnji utorak.
Vaskrs se slavi od vremena prvih apostola i njegovo načelo i suština objašnjavaju se riječima Svetog apostola Pavla, zapisanih u apostolskim djelima: "Ako Hristos ne vaskrse, prazna je propovijed naša i prazna je vjera naša".
Praznovanjem Vaskrsa hrišćani naglašavaju svoju vjeru i pobjedu života nad smrću.
