Švedski kralj Karl Šesnaesti Gustav dodijelio je danas Nobelove nagrade za medicinu, fiziku, hemiju, književnost i ekonomiju.
Monarh je laureatima dodijelio diplome i zlatne medalje.
Predsjednik Odbora Nobelovog fonda Astrid Soderberg Viding istakla je prilikom otvaranja ceremonije da kroz slobodno istraživanje nauka širi granice ljudskog znanja, osigurava spremnost za neočekivane i nepredvidive događaje u budućnosti.
Ona je istakla da su "laureati koji su večeras dobili nagrade svjedoci moći nauke i književnosti".
Na medaljama od osamnaestokaratnog zlata i teškim 175 grama nalazi se profil osnivača fonda Alfreda Nobela. Medalje su do 1980. godine bile teške do 200 grama i bile su od 23-karatnog zlata.
Nobelove diplome predstavljaju malo umjetničko dijelo sa raznobojnim slovima i posebnim zlatnim monogramima. Povez je od kože.
Nakon dodijele nagrada, laureati, članovi kraljevske porodice i Vlade, predstavnici naučne, ekonomske i kulturne elite odlaze na tradicionalni banket u Gradskoj skupštini Stokholma.
