Посада кинеске свемирске летјелице "шенжоу-19" успјешно је извршила низ експеримената са вјештачком фотосинтезом и успјела је да у свемирској станици "Тјангун" први пут у историји произведе кисеоник и компоненте за ракетно гориво, јавио је лист Саут Чајна морнинг пост.
Астронаути су током 12 експеримената успјели да произведу кисеоник и етилен.
Лист подсјећа да су на Међународној свемирској станици већ вршени експерименти повезани са фотосинтезом, али су се астронаути у њима бавили узгајањем биљака и проучавањем утицаја микрогравитације на природну фотосинтезу.
Станица се, наводно, ослањала на електролизу, која користи електричну енергију са соларних панела станице за раздвајање воде на водоник и кисеоник.
